Two children, struck by gunfire in back-to-back weekends in Riviera Beach this month. The community is taking a stand with a resolution to help stop the violence.
“A resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. We are going to make a commitment to do something different from what we did in the past. This is our commitment to resolve some of the problems that we’ve had in the past,” said Derrick McCray, President of the Youth Recreation Association.
Join the community in a Peace Walk from Inlet Grove High School (600 West 28th Street, Riviera Beach) to the Wells Recreation Center (2409 Avenue H West).
There will be music from local artists, free food for children, non-profit organizations and vendors on site.
The event is open to the public and serves as an initiative to support peace in the community.
“We are committed to education, recreation, vocation and crime prevention. We are resolving to reduce crime in Palm Beach County by providing opportunities for students to get information about certification programs, mentoring programs and military recruitment programs in our schools that will help them with their career,” said McCray.
The event is sponsored by the Youth Recreation Association and Mothers Against Murderers Association.
Twenty-four area schools have been invited to attend Resolution Day, along with clergy, nonprofit groups and the Palm Beach County School District to make the event a success.
