Today we honor the service and sacrifice of Officer Meredith Stanley Runck, Jr., killed in the line of duty 44 years ago.

The 32-year-old officer sacrificed his life serving and protecting our great city during a domestic disturbance call.

Runck’s memorial plaque at police headquarters serves as a reminder of the committment to our community for all our officers.

The brave officer was with the department for 15 months before his end of watch on April 5, 1974.

Each patrol shift will observe a moment of silence today in Officer Runck’s honor.
